Fair Trade Jewelry

For over 25 years, mekhada has been synonymous with Fair Trade Jewelry and accessories made from handmade natural and recycled materials.

Together with our global partners, we develop traditionally handcrafted jewelry collections and bring them into modern designs. A characteristic feature is the use of natural materials, predominantly typical of the country, in accordance with environmentally friendly manufacturing methods.

Sustainable, long-term, and direct cooperation without price and time pressure thus enables many disadvantaged artisans to look forward to a secure income and social security.

Our collections

A new and at the same time “old” recycling idea comes from India. The tradition of turning worn-out saris into blankets has taken on a new aspect today: wooden beads are covered with sari fabrics to create colorful Kantha jewelry.

With Glass jewelry from Nepal, mekhada supports local arts and crafts: fine beads are crafted by artisans into roll-on bracelets, necklaces, and earrings that are particularly comfortable to wear.

Another interesting recycling project comes from Kenya: in the slums of Nairobi, old brass doorknobs are melted down in simple furnaces. This results in a modern Designer jewelry collection that impresses with ever-new ideas.

Colombian Tagua jewelry, made from the hard seeds of a type of palm tree, is also very popular. In the past, this “vegetable ivory” was used to make buttons.

Our Asian partner Starfish Project gives sexually exploited women new prospects in life and work with jobs in the production of Modern jewelry, but also in management, photography, and other areas.

Stylish Ceramic jewelry from Kenya provides a livelihood primarily for single mothers. Because they are made entirely by hand, no two beads are alike, which is precisely what makes this collection so irresistibly appealing.

A real highlight among our natural materials is Silk: bags and jewelry from Cambodia and cocoon work from Colombia round off our range in a colorful, airy way.
