Starfish Project – Jewelry with a Social Mission
Starfish Project is a social enterprise with a mission to provide women who have experienced human trafficking and exploitation with new opportunities through safe and dignified employment, professional development, and additional support services. Starfish Project was founded in Asia in 2006 by a small group of committed women. Since then, the organization has employed more than 180 women and has supported thousands more through its community outreach programs.
At the heart of its work is the opportunity to build an independent and self-determined life through employment and professional development. Employees receive vocational training and support in developing their personal and professional skills. Starfish Project also provides holistic support services and life-skills training.
Starfish Project jewelry is designed and handcrafted by women employed by the organization. Each piece goes through several careful production steps and is subject to quality control. Depending on the collection, materials such as stainless steel, brass, natural stones, pearls, and gold plating are used. Starfish Project combines contemporary jewelry design with skilled craftsmanship, placing an emphasis on quality and careful workmanship.
Starfish Project is a member of the Fair Trade Federation and operates as a fair trade organization. The organization describes its employment opportunities as safe and dignified and provides employees with opportunities for professional development.
Revenue from jewelry sales supports the work of Starfish Project. It helps, among other things, to provide employment for women and support programs offering holistic care and vocational training. These programs are also supported by foundations and private donations.
Behind every piece of jewelry are women with their own experiences, skills, and stories. Through employment, training, and support, Starfish Project aims to give women the opportunity to develop new professional prospects and build self-determined lives.
